The Apprentice--my favorite reality TV

The Apprentice--my favorite reality TV

Posted by Von Battle

Reality TV, with its (supposedly) unscripted dialog and action, has been a staple of American culture at least since the beginning of the television boom that followed World War II (back then we had Candid Camera").

Of all the reality shows that have ever been put on, my favorite is "The Apprentice" featuring Donald Trump. It is now in its seventh year and is about to enter its eleventh episode. I've watched it on satellite TV, that I got after seeing these http://www.directstartv.com, ever since it first came on in 2004, and the show has a lot of valuable lessons to teach about efficient business practices€”and about life in general. The seriousness of the project is shown in the fact that the finalist gets to manage one of Trump's companies. All the rest are fired, one by one.

The very first task Trump gave the apprentices was one of the first businesses that people often go into as kids€”selling lemonades to thirsty pedestrians in summer. Other tasks have involved restaurants, car commercials, and product characters. Once Martha Stewart did her own version of the show. More recently, celebrities have been featured on "The Apprentice."

Some of the candidates were poor workers and even contemptible figures, and we're glad to see them fired. The very first member thus dismissed gave the excuse that "sales is not my forte."

Of course, the best part of the show is at the very end, when Trump gives one of the two remaining candidates the "welcome aboard."
